All my bags are packed, I'm ready to go...

 


This is Gary right before we left for the airport.  Our son, Brandon came to
pick us up and take us to the airport.  


Our darling grandchildren and Brandon took us to lunch in Salt Lake!

Sister Jensen, Sister Stout, and Sister Christensen all work in the office and they
welcomed us with chocolate and flowers!  They are amazing senior missionaries.  


This is Louise and Sister Ryan Reilly.  She is a missionary in Berlin and her
hometown is Hyrum, Utah.  She does not live far from my sister Susan.  She 
is a cheerful missionary and a light to everyone around her.  


Louise's maiden name is Lenkersdorfer and there are "dorfer" signs all over the 
place.  "Dorfer" means villages.  It was so fun to see this sign on our first day.



Our apartment is on the 4th level  Our parking garage is -1 and ground
level is 0.  We have a "car elevator" to get to the parking garage.  We drive
into the parking elevator in our car (our car barely fits) and then push down and 
the car elevator takes our car with us in it to the -0 level and we pull out and find our 
parking spot and back in.  


We went to Brandenburg to do an apartment inspection with 
Elder's Vehar and Curtis.  This city was spared from a lot of
the bombing so the buildings are the original construction (rare
in most parts of Germany which was leveled in the war).  




Elder Vehar set up this impromptu weight room between
their beds in the bedroom.  He used 3 chairs and an ironing board.  


This statue of Roland is located in the Old Town City Hall Square.  
It symbolized the kings protection and civic freedom - 1474 - It is 
one of the oldest preserved examples.


There are several pug statues that the caretaker moves throughout the city.
It is a "find waldo" moment.  This one was perched against the fountain.

This is one of the parking signs.  We did not know how to read it so
we parked here ... luckily we did not get towed.


We park our car on what would be the parking strip in Utah.  
We had a really close parking spot one day but the next day when
we tried to park there, someone had put a huge rock there.
I guess we weren't welcome...


This is the Mission Office!  It is the same one that was used
in 2012-2014 when he served in Berlin Germany.

This is the Berlin English Ward Church that Gary and Louise
are assigned to attend.  We meet at 10 am.  It is in the Tiergarten area.

We attended Church on Sunday and it is a big ward.  We met a few 
people and look forward to getting to know everyone else.  

In 1 Nephi:17:13:  And I will also be your light in the wilderness and I will 
prepare the way before you, if it so be that ye shall keep my commandments...

We have felt that the way has been prepared for us to be in Germany at this time.

Office Senior Missionary Work

  This is Gary in his office at the Berlin Mission Offices located at Zerbster Strasse 42 This is Louise's desk space.  I use my laptop more than the desktop but both are available. This is the lobby of the mission office.   This tree is located just outside of our balcony window.   These are some of the packages that families have mailed to their missionaries.  All packages are delivered to the Mission Office and then we distribute them at  Zone Conference. More packages Shopping Carts require a coin to unlock the baskets from each other. Once a customer returns the basket to the rack, the coin is returned. In this grocery store, there is a cart escalator from the  parking garage into the store.   Gary at Edeka - just finished shopping. There is no time to bag groceries at the checkout stand. Departing Missionaries and New Arrivals from Provo, Utah MTC

  Elder Bryant, Elder Francis, Elder Esslinger, & Sister Stuart all left on 9 January 2026 after completing their missionary  service.  Also pictured are our AP's - Elder Holland and Elder Koshar. These are some of the missionaries who live close to the office. They catch a bus about a block from the office. It is COLD here this week. Elder Stephens, Elder Bryant, Sister Zwick, Sister Hokanson, Sister Harmon, Sister Spaulding, Elder Johnson, Elder Lucas,  and Elder Turman.   We had 11 new missionaries arrive in Berlin on 8 January 2026.  They were so tired after traveling for 20 hours.  We picked them up at the Berlin Airport, took them to the Stake Center where we fed them, interviewed them, did intake paperwork with them, and then sent them on busses and trains with their trainers for  their new area assignments.   Sister Karchaske Elder Wimmer Sister Stephens and Elder Esslinger We were on  "kitchen duty" I prepped all t...

Charlottenburg Palace and Christmas Market

  Christmas Markets and Palaces are the best places to visit while in Germany in December.  We chose to visit the Charlottenburg Palace and Christmas Market this week.  It was so much fun!   The vaulted ceilings, chandeliers, marble floors and decorations are amazing. Cherubs Paintings and Vases Every room has a fireplace.  I'm sure the servants had to light them every single day in order to keep the palace warm for the royalty. A tribute to the prince...
